Welcome to the South India AIDS Action Programme (Siaap)
website. It brings me great pleasure to introduce the
new, updated website that will reflect and articulate
all of Siaap's efforts to prevent people from getting
HIV or from dying of AIDS.
When we started working in 1988, our mission was simple:
getting information and resources to people in India to
protect themselves from an HIV infection; and treating
affected people with respect and care. This commitment
led us down unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable
paths. As individuals and communities, we have had to
confront our sexual norms and practices, our traditional
views about women and men, and our unequal access to
health and livelihood opportunities.
Fifteen years later, Siaap's commitment to these issues,
in the context of the AIDS epidemic, remains unchanged.
We take pride in setting up model projects that have
helped check the growth of HIV in Tamil Nadu, a leader
state in the country. It is my personal mission to
foster progressive, affordable, and effective policies
and initiatives in areas where we may not have the
access, but we do have the will.
If this is your first time discovering Siaap, I hope you
will enjoy learning about who we are, what we do, and
where we act. If you are familiar with our work, I would
like to personally thank you for your continued belief
and support in Siaap. Your encouragement has brought us
to where we are today.
